Vianode AS was established by Elkem early 2021 and aims to become a leading solutions provider to the fast-growing battery industry. We are looking for an Application Engineer to support the growth of our business in Europe.

Our first full-scale industrial plant for production of anode graphite will be built at Herøya and start of production (fast-track) is planned in 2023. This material is a key component in lithium-ion battery cells.

In an application engineer position with Vianode you would interact with customers to support their selection and qualification of Vianode materials. Support the sales team as a technical expert on anode materials in customer meetings. Advance the qualification process for materials at the customer site and work with the R&D team to set goals for product improvement projects.

A high degree of technical capability and drive is required to understand and resolve technical problems as well as interpersonal skills and ability to explain technical information.

Areas of responsibility

  • Interact with customers on technical requirements for materials and support the sales team in a technical function.
  • Responsible for qualification process of materials at customer sites, resolve technical, logistical, supply, and quality issues.
  • Coordinate support of the PPAP process for customers.
  • Work with R&D and quality team members and pilot plant team to resolve customer technical issues and plan product improvement projects.
  • Be updated on the technology status in the field of anode materials for lithium-ion battery cells  

Qualifications required for the position

  • Degree in materials science or engineering.
  • Experience with lithium-ion materials or lithium-ion cells in an industrial setting.
  • Understanding of coatings and formulations is a plus.
  • Ability to clearly communication complex technical information.
  • Self-driven and a good team player
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively interact with all levels of personnel within and outside the company, in an international setting
  • Effective presentation, oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness to travel
  • Fluent in English

The position reports to R&D Director and the primary work location is negotiable.

Regardless of location and as part of your on-boarding, you will be invited to a two-month training period in Kristiansand - Norway.
